About the Position

The Senior DevOps Engineer is a driving force in the SRE team; delivering complex platform work end-to-end across infrastructure provisioning, CI/CD, observability, and security. The role requires deep hands-on expertise across the full MLS stack (GKE GitOps, Cloud Run via Terraform, GitLab CI/CD pipelines, and GCP) and a proactive mindset that goes beyond ticket execution. The Senior Engineer integrates AI-driven development practices into daily work, mentors junior engineers, and acts as the technical reference for development teams on infrastructure topics. As a primary contributor in the Infrastructure Delivery and Architecture (IDA) workstream, the role concentrates capacity on architectural transitions, AI capability enablement, CI/CD improvements, and proactive security engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead development and maintenance of the Terraform mls-infrastructure repo: modules, plan/apply CI components, Cloud Run deploy guard
  • Design and maintain GKE cluster infrastructure via Flux and ArgoCD
  • Implement per-job Workload Identity Federation for secure, credential-free CI/GCP access
  • Build reusable Terraform modules for GCP resources (Cloud Run, GCS, Pub/Sub, MongoDB Atlas)
  • Contribute to and extend the pipelines-mip shared GitLab CI template library (~661 service pipelines)
  • Drive the full build, scan, and deploy cycle: image builds, GitOps hand-off, Cloud Run version management
  • Manage cross-project pipeline triggers, deploy guards, Protected Environments, and code owners
  • Design and maintain Grafana dashboards, Prometheus alerting, Loki log aggregation, and Tempo tracing
  • Operate Sentry for application error tracking and DefectDojo for security finding management
  • Contribute to defining and tracking SLOs/SLIs; support improvement in platform reliability and incident recovery time
  • Support P0/P1 incident response; contribute to actionable RCAs
  • Run the security pipeline: Trivy container scanning, SAST, secret detection, SBOMs
  • Maintain and improve GCP IAM, GKE private networking, Cloud Armor, and Google Secret Manager hygiene
  • Track and remediate CVEs; drive container curation and base-image hygiene
  • Use AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor) daily for infrastructure work
  • Integrate AI tooling into CI/CD workflows: automated documentation, AI-assisted code review, incident triage
  • Share AI-driven productivity patterns with the team and grow collective capability
  • Be the go-to contact for development teams on CI/CD, GCP, Kubernetes, and security topics
  • Review infrastructure and CI/CD Merge Requests thoroughly and promptly
  • Mentor Junior DevOps Engineers and onboard new team members to the MLS infra stack
  • Keep documentation, runbooks, and AGENTS.md files current and actionable
  • Serve as a primary contributor in the Infrastructure Delivery and Architecture workstream, concentrating on forward-looking, change-driven infrastructure work
  • Drive focus areas including infrastructure architectural transitions, AI and new capability enablement, developer experience and CI/CD improvements, and proactive security engineering
  • Produce change summaries and runbook documentation for significant deliverables, handing off operational ownership to the reliability and operations stream
  • Participate in the weekly workstream sync and the Monthly Focus Meeting; coordinate cross-stream dependencies with the reliability and operations stream

Requirements:

  • Kubernetes and GKE (GitOps, managed and unmanaged): 2+ years
